Industry analysts from a wide range of fields are beginning to point towards a company’s data, as being underused and under gathered. Some analysts even go as far to make the statement that within the next 5 to 10 years the only difference between one business and another (in the same industry) is the data and how that data is gathered and how a company uses that data in the future which will give a company that competitive edge.
At Crompton Creative Advertising, Inc we feel that leveraging your data into your marketing plan, will not only create metrics to quickly identify the value of any advertising campaign, but to further understand your data and how to create campaigns to market towards the data found and the specific goals of a company. Perhaps one campaign would be to attract new customers and another campaign for keeping existing customers. Then by reviewing all your data collectively you can see which campaigns where most cost effective without having to rely on anecdotal information. By understanding and using the data your company currently owns, you can see if a campaign is giving you the desired results your company is looking for. If not, perhaps reallocating your media mix to be more effective in another area of media might be a better choice. The industry term for this is “Business Intelligence” or BI. BI is made up of four areas:
Data Gathering – Most of the data gathering is already being done by your business.
Data Modeling – Taking your existing data structure and transforming it into a structure that is usable with other tools allowing you to leverage your data. This modeling will also help identify any data that is currently not being collected so that a business process can be created to gather that data.
Data Analytics – Reviewing the existing data to answer specific business questions. An example questions could be; “How many travelers show up in a day, counted by hour of the day and day of the week.” This would allow you to easily see when you need to have the correct number of counter people to ensure that the waiting line for a customer is not too long. Another example might be “Is the commercial that we are running getting the desire results?
Data Mining – Running the data through statistical models to identify anomalies to predict how advertising campaigns will affect the overall goals of a company.
Working as a team CCA can start leveraging your data now, so that within the next few years when you are ready to proceed with data mining you will not have to start from scratch. While you may not be ready for Data Mining at the moment you should be relying on Data Analytics to create metrics to identify the success or failure of every advertising campaign.
